Pianist Jeffrey Biegel

Internationally renowned pianist Jeffrey Biegel is to perform for a Key West audience as the featured soloist in “Untamed Spirit,” the South Florida Symphony’s final MasterWorks concert of its 2017 season.

Biegel and the symphony are scheduled to take the stage at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 4, at the Tennessee Williams Theatre, 5901 College Road on the Florida Keys Community College campus.

Guided by award-winning conductor and Key West native Sebrina Maria Alfonso, the symphony is a professional world-class orchestra serving Key West and the Florida Keys as well as other South Florida regions.

Biegel is to perform “Concerto for Simply Grand Piano and Orchestra” by P.D.Q. Bach, the fictitious 18th-century alter ego of composer/satirist Peter Schickele. The intriguing piece was co-commissioned by the symphony specifically for Biegel.

The evening’s program also features the “Hebrides Overture” by Felix Mendelssohn and Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 in E Minor.

Soloist Biegel is a chart-topping classical recording artist as well as an accomplished composer and arranger. He also opened new doors for his fellow musicians when he became the first pianist to give a live Internet recital. Acclaimed for his interpretations of works by both classical and contemporary composers, Biegel has appeared with leading symphonies around the world including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Boston Pops, Orchestre de la Suisse Romande and Bayerischer Rundfunk (Munich Radio Orchestra).

Before the April performance, attendees can enjoy a 6:45 p.m. “symphony chat” with classical pianist and music historian Edward Pitts at the Tennessee Williams Theatre.

Tickets for the performance are available at keystix.ticketforce.com and are priced at $25 to $85 per person depending on seat location.
