Tag Archives: Parrot KeyToday’s Weather at Parrot KeyWe have been seeing unseasonable cold weather the last couple of days, with nighttime temperatures falling below 60°F two nights in a row, but starting today it should start to warm up again. It is currently 61°F at Parrot Key, but is expected to hit 70°F by midday. Tonight should be around 63°F and by tomorrow things should be back around 75°F. Anyone prepared for cold and windy ocean conditions can be expected to have great fishing tomorrow through the weekend, as fish get more energetic with the warming weather. Sunset tonight is at 6:20 pm, expect festivities at Mallory Square to start around 5:00. Fishing ReportIt’s 83°F and sunny with 13 mph wind from the East today in Key West, and the sailfish are running! Good catches have been reported by almost all charters, and with the World Sailfish Championship only 9 days away the season is looking really spectacular. Tarpon are also still around in abundance in the flats and backcountry; anyone who goes out with an experienced guide is almost assured of hooking into a monster.

Fishing Report: Tarpon
Warm weather has once again brought the tarpon back in force. Good catches have been reported all around Key West, with almost every boat getting hooked into large fish. Favorable tides, light winds and warm weather are predicted until Saturday, which means good fishing should continue all week.

Reef fishing will be a little harder because the wind is blowing at a steady 14 mph, so chop might make some it difficult for those who get seasick. Sunset Festival Performers: Dominique’s Circus Cats
One of the most interesting and original parts of Sunset festival, and probably its longest running act, is Dominique the Catman and his Flying Circus Cats. Growing up in Key West Dominique’s act was my absolute favorite. This act is like nothing else you can imagine; it includes cat acrobatics, cat herding, cat comedy, flaming rings, tightropes, juggling and much more. Dominique is an expert performer himself, telling jokes, keeping all of his performers moving at once, and making sure everyone is very entertained. Parrot Key is only a short bike or cab ride away from Mallory square, where you can catch the Catman almost every day for three performances before, during, and after sunset. Trust me, it’s well worth seeing.
