One of Key West’s most famous and beloved celebrations is back — you won’t want to miss this 10 day festival featuring something for everyone! Commemorating the 1983 creation of our island nation (“We seceded where others failed!”), this event has been called Key West’s own 4th of July, Bastille Day and Cinco De Mayo celebration all rolled into one.
With events ranging from the “World’s Longest Parade” to the election of the Conch Republic Royal Family, this eclectic jamboree embodies the true spirit of our favorite tiny island — enjoy daily music festivals, bar crawls, drag races, conch-blowing contests, car shows, tall ship battles, craft shows, food festivals and even a pet stroll!
Set your calendars for April 20th – 29th. For the full schedule of events, head on over to: http://conchrepublic.com/schedule.htm
This Friday, for the first time in a century, the Historic Armory’s Grand Hall (home to the Studios of Key West) will host “Vienna in Paradise — A Classical Concert Event.”
Join master musicians Herbert Weissberg, former principal flutist for the Vienna Symphony; Heinz Medjimorec of the Piano Haydn Trio; and Peter Siakala, cellist for the Vienna Symphony, as all three gentlemen make history in one of Key West’s most treasured heritage sites. This fabulous exhibition is sure to be a treasured memory for all in attendance.
This is the first time in 100 years that the Historic Armory’s Grand Hall will be used for a performance of this caliber. All ticket holders are invited to a sweet & savory champagne reception following the event, which begins promptly at 7:00pm on Friday, March 16th.
Tickets are $100 per person and are available for purchase at the Studios of Key West website, or by calling 305-296-0458.
Congratulation to Julie Dolan Casado for winning our Facebook memories contest. Her memory of meeting her husband on the location that is now Parrot Key and then later bringing her family back for a vacation touched us. We will post her winning entry below, but also will be posting some of our favorite pictures and posts from the contest. Thank you to everyone who participated, it was tons of fun.
This is my family enjoying Parrot Key Hotel in Key West, I shall tell you this place has special and dear meaning to us always. You see my husband and I are celebrating 17 years together this year. We try and go to KW and love staying at Parrot Bay at least once a year. When we saw that they opened we could not believe the location of the resort is almost to the spot in which my husband and I first met. Our son who is 12 years old now thought we were making up the story, but it is true. When you step out of your car and check in your room, you immediately leave all of your problems behind. The beauty not only the resort has to offer but the island does something to your spirit! Everytime my husband and I go we feel rejuvenated and refreshed and especially remember us all those years ago when our eyes first met each others for the first time. Parrot Key Hotel has designed all that KW should be, capturing all that one searches for in an ideal getaway. We have so many good memories to share but the one nearest and dearest to our heart is of course meeting in Key West and the fun we have whilst at Parrot Key, You can sip frozen drinks poolside and enjoy hearing your child play in the water. You can sit quietly as you view the beautiful plants and flowers in the garden area. We find the most enjoyment from watching the beautiful sunset together as a family and remembering all that we shall be grateful for in life. Our memories will always hold great meaning to us and we hope that our son when he has a family someday that he too will bring his family to Parrot Key and enjoy this beautiful island and make new memories.
Parrot Key is running its first ever memories contest on Facebook! Check out our page to enter your favorite memory, and we will reward our favorite with two free nights!
