Mask Workshop
Here at Parrot Key Hotel we really love a good mask– the more elaborate, the better. And with Fantasy Fest and Halloween both quickly approaching, we’re definitely going to be taking The Studios of Key West up on their offer for two special workshops in mask-making this month.
On Saturday, Oct, 13, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m., workshop attendees are invited to join artist-in-residence Slaveya Starkov at The Wild Within: Masks & Headpieces, a workshop that sets out to explore the power of storytelling through the creation of art objects.
Workshop attendees will learn creative, hands-on ways to bring their dream mask, headpiece or individual design to fruition.
The cost of the workshop is $90 for nonmembers of the studios ($75 for members) with most supplies are included.
Make sure your Fantasy Fest costume is a true reflection of your creative abilities! Sign up for the mask-making workshop at http://www.tskw.org/

Fantasy Fest King & Queen Candidate Meeting: Today, 6pm
One of the most important accolades any Key West fan can win, the King & Queen of Fantasy Fest are certainly a vital part of the October celebrations. As with any awarded monarchy, campaigning for one’s crown is of the utmost importance! If you think you’ve got what it takes to wear this year’s crown, come to an informative meeting this evening, June 11th at 6pm at the Southernmost Hotel Conference Room, 1319 Duval St. Official campaigning begins Friday, August 24th, so today’s meeting is a great way to get a jump on preparations and have any questions about the process answered. As with each year, candidates whose fundraising efforts are the most successful will be crowned the King and Queen of Fantasy Fest on Friday, Oct. 19, at the official Coronation Ball, the theme of which is “Mayan Empire.”
For more information call Pam DeMala at 296-6196.
Fantasy Fest Weather
Aquatic Afrolic might be underwater in a more literal sense than desired, with heavy rain expected at some point this weekend, but probably clearing up by Saturday. There should be some small thunder storms friday and saturday, but the potential hurricane seems to have mostly dissipated. That shouldn’t stop any of the events, and huge turnout is still expected.
