Start your week off right with a spooky screening presented by Key West’s favorite independent movie theatre, the Tropic Cinema! Head down to the theatre tonight to catch a special, one-night-only screening of the 1954 classic horror film “Creature From the Black Lagoon.”
This definitive monster movie is not to be missed– get there early for good seats and great snacks! Screening begins at 7:00pm.
The Tropic Cinema is located at 416 Eaton St. For more information, call 305-295-4393.
Want some feel-good charity points to go along with your Friday drink specials? How about a happy hour held at local favorite The BottleCap Groove Lounge (trust us when we say that their happy hours are the stuff of legends) with proceeds to benefit The Xena Fund, a local charity that seeks to shorten the gap between quality veterinary care and those who can pay for it by providing funds to cover emergency pet care for all animals in Key West and the Lower Keys. The Xena Fund uses the funds it raises to pay veterinarians who donate their services to animals in distress, in addition to paying for annual visits to the vet and any preventative medications and annual vaccinations that pets might need.
Tonight at 5:00pm you’re invited to take advantage of drink specials and a 50/50 raffle, as well as a special drag show by 801 icons Deja and Desiray, who will be donating their skills both behind the bar and in front of it! Why not make The BottleCap Groove Lounge the first stop on your Friday night bar crawl? Even if Fido is safe at home, you can bet he’ll appreciate the gesture.
The BottleCap Groove Lounge is located at 1128 Simonton Street, Key West, FL, 33040. For more information on The Xena Fund, visit www.xenafund.com
Here in Key West we’re more likely to head to the “Dive In” than the “Drive In” movie theatre– and tonight they’re showing one of our favorites! Head over to our neighbor, Ibis Bay, to catch “Harold and Maud,” the 1971 cult classic that chronicles the relationship between an elderly woman and her friend, a young boy with some serious issues surrounding death. The movie begins at 8:00pm, we’ll see you there!
Ibis Bay is located at 3101 N. Roosevelt Blvd, Key West, FL,33040, United States (Close enough to Parrot Key to walk!)
Want to drink with purpose this evening? Then head on over to the Lazy Gecko, located at 203 Duval St., and learn how the “fun” gets put into “fundraising.” Watch as the Lazy Dog Paddle Team and staff members get behind the bar from 5 to 8 p.m for drinks, laughs, raffles, a silent auction and more! All proceeds from this fantastic event will benefit the Monroe County Special Olympic athletes.
For more information, call 305-395-0724.
Swing by Key West’s own little White House for a Presidential Election-themed exhibit, opening today at the Truman Little White House, located at 111 Front St.

Celebrate Johnny Appleseed Day the way Johnny himself would have wanted it: with a delicious evening of wine pairings with apples, cheese, apple pie and more, hosted by Duval St’s own Cork & Stogie Bar. Singing hymns and pot-shaped hats are optional, of course, but having fun is mandatory: swing by Cork & Stogie tonight at 1218 Duval Street any time after 6:00pm and save us a slice of that apple pie!
Today marks the beginning of the 14th annual Florida Keys Birding and Wildlife Festival, which runs from September 25th through the 30th and covers a wide range of activities that any birding or wildlife enthusiast will enjoy.
A simple, one-time $5 registration at www.keysbirdingfest.org gets you access to a fascinating schedule of activities, from guide-led bird walks to wildlife & nature photography classes. While some events require an additional donation (such as the sunset sail aboard the Jolly II Rover, a truly beautiful trip) there is certainly an event to fit every budget. For the full list of activities, visit www.keysbirdingfest.org and start planning your days!
Talk about a blast from the past. One of the most iconic (and most loved) cult films of the 80′s, John Hughes’ quintessential High School flick about a group of ill-matched teens brought together in detention was an instant classic upon its release in 1985. Catch Molly Ringwald, Emilio Estevez, Ally Sheedy, Judd Nelson and more– tonight, for one night only! Screening starts at 7:00; get there early for a wide array of snacks and beverages.
To catch the show, simply head down to Key West’s favorite little movie theatre, The Tropic Cinema, located at 416 Eaton Street. We’ll see you there!
Stop in at The Porch tonight between 5:00 and 8:00pm to watch as Key West’s home brewers battle to prove their excellence! Sample the best of Key West’s mini breweries, judge your favorites and enjoy a raffle, great drinks, and a laid back, fun-loving crowd. We’re big fans of The Porch here at Parrot Key Resort– we think you’ll enjoy their easy atmosphere, which makes a great respite from the hustle and bustle of Duval St. when needed. $15 suggested donation at the door.
The Porch is located at 429 Caroline Street.
The Studios of Key West will host the opening reception for their new showcase, “Emerge,” tonight at 6:00pm.
Enjoy the premiere of written, performed and visual art presented by TSKW studio artists and their invited guests. “Emerge” marks a collaboration between TSKW artists and emerging artists, invited by residents to show their work along side their own.
Swing by the studios for your first glimpse of this exciting exhibition, which runs through November 10th. You can find the TSKW at 600 White St.
