Sunset Celebration

Did you know that there is a celebration held each night in Key West, the subject of which is the sunset? Here on this little island, we feel that the daily setting of the sun is one of the most beautiful and wonderful things that happens– and we celebrate it in style, with artists, performances, food vendors, musicians and more! If you’re only in town for a short vacation you absolutely must make time to view this incredible tradition. Held at Mallory Square, our Sunset Celebration is one of the best examples of how wonderful Key West can be. Two hours before the sun sets, visitors and locals alike will converge at Mallory Square to enjoy fun and festivities…make sure you’re there!

The Key West Summer Stage presents, “Talk Radio” July 10 thru 14

Key West’s Red Barn Theatre will begin its limited run of “Talk Radio,” the Broadway play nominated for two Tony Awards and a Pulitzer Prize, tonight.

Written by Eric Bogosian, “Talk Radio” centers around Barry Champlain, an Ohio shock jock whose outrageous and insult-driven show is about to hit syndication. With his producer worried that Barry might take his contentious jibes too far, and Barry resistant to censorship, the play moves quickly between hilarious and heart-breaking, with winning results that are sure to stay with you.
The show runs July 10 through 14, with nightly shows at 8pm at the Red Barn Theater, located at 319 Duval Street. Tickets can be purchased at 305 – 540 – 6102.

Partial clouds, whole lot of fun…

These cooler temperatures (well, cooler than the recent 90+ days we’ve been seeing!) and partly sunny skies have us itching to get out on the water. Add in the reasonably low winds we’ve been having and you get the perfect weather for one of Key West’s most popular activities: fishing! Both offshore and reef fishing are superb at the moment, with your chances of hooking a big, beautiful species of Snapper at a season high. So what are you waiting for? There are a variety of local charters to meet every price range and possible request– from private, all day power boats to shared single seats, your friendly Parrot Key front desk agent can certainly help you narrow down the choices to the one that fits your (and your family’s) needs.

Have fun this week, and as always, enjoy your stay on our beautiful island.

Hot way to start off your week….

Today’s temperatures are supposed to hit 90+, and with the UV index at a sky high 11, you’ll want to keep a close eye on any exposed skin– reapply often to avoid burns, and make sure the only lobsters on your vacation are those on your plate at A&B Lobster House!

All is quiet on the island front here in Key West, as our little town gears up for the big Fourth of July fireworks show happening this Wednesday at 9:00pm. In the meantime, why not head down to one of the public grills at Higgs Beach or Fort Zachary Taylor and have a pre-Fourth BBQ? Sounds good to us! And with tonight’s temperatures expected to hover around 80 degrees, it might be the perfect night to take one of Key West’s famous ghost tours. We’re getting chills just thinking about it…

Happy Monday, everyone!
