Fans of Key West’s Summer Stage Theatre will be sad to learn that the final show of the three-week series begins tonight: head down to the Red Barn Theatre at 319 Duval Street to catch the Tony Award-winning play, Conor McPherson’s “The Seafarer,” which begins its five performances today, June 24th. This limited run will end July 28th, so buy your tickets now before they’re all sold out! “The Seafarer” follows James “Sharky” Harkin, an alcoholic tasked with taking care of his blind, aging brother over the Christmas holidays after being fired from his job. Set in a small town near Dublin, the play blends McPherson’s sardonic wit with magical realism, culminating in a high stakes poker game that will leave you on the edge of your seat.
Tickets are available by calling TheatreXP at 302-540-6102. ($40 for opening night, and $35 for the rest of the run.) For more information, visit www.keywestsummerstage.com or www.theatrexp.org .
One of Key West’s most popular bars, The Porch, is proving that just because you’re old enough to celebrate with a drink does not mean you still can’t celebrate like a kid once in a while. Join the people behind The Porch as they toast their second year in business with a “Happy 2nd Birthday” themed anniversary party tonight, featuring all your childhood favorites (and some new ones, too!) Cake, balloons, champagne, cotton candy, a live DJ and more. Festivities begin at 5:00pm. Head on down to 429 Caroline St. and remember: just because you’re celebrating like a child does not mean you get to act like one.
