Today’s Weather at Parrot Key

It’s 88 degrees and sunny today at Parrot Key, with a light wind from the South East.  There is rain coming later this week, but that should be a reprieve for any visiting from the northeast or midwest.  The sun sets tonight at 8:15, and with the weather coming should be particularly stunning.  The sunset festival performers should be starting at around 5:30 tonight in historic mallory square, with performances continuing until at least 9:00pm.

Lower Keys Annual Underwater Music Festival July 9th

One of the lower Keys most original annual events is the Underwater Music Festival.  Continental Americas only living coral reef is the site of the event, at which hundreds of divers and snorkelers explore the reef while symphonies are piped in from high quality underwater speakers.  This years event will take place in the Looe Key section of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary, six miles south of Big Pine Key, and run from 10 AM to 2 PM.  Dozens of private boats will be attending, but also charters and tour boats are offering special trips to enjoy this original Keys experience. Today’s Weather at Parrot Key

It’s 83°F and sunny today at Parrot Key.  Southeast wind at 11mph is creating some small chop on the ocean, but nothing prohibitive to water sports.  If you are considering doing something on the ocean today would be a great choice, there are predictions of thunderstorms for the rest of the week, so get in your boating while you can.  Sunset tonight will be at 8:19 and festivities at Mallory Square are expected to start around 5:30.

Drambuie Key West Marlin Tournament

Coinciding with the Hemingway Birthday Celebration is this years Key West Marlin Tournament.  The marlin is one of the most prized sports fish in the Keys, the most beloved of Hemingway, and should attract a divers and skilled set of anglers.  Last year a 550 pounder was caught but still fell short of the prize by three points, and with the fishing being as good as it has this year it should be even more exiting.  For information on the tournament and registration info click here.
